Oscars 2011: It’s all about the Marchesa and Armani Prive

Academy Awards Red Carpet Fashion this year was definitely more on the safe side in my personal opinion. Daring necklines or other bold plunges were few, and the trend was more elegant, fitted, and monochromatic.

That being said, the following looks (images from the  Telegraph) were my personal favourites:

Damn this woman is SO HOT, and so modest and effortless about it this well- Mila Kunis definitely a hit in this gorgeous lacy chiffon detailed Elie Saab lavender number

Not just for  fourteen year old, but for anyone, Hailee Steinfeld knows a thing or two about couture. I think she absolutely bedazzled in this one of a kind Marchesa and can add that to her fashion resume following the Prabal Gurung gown from the Golden Globes and that colourful Prada number last month

Halle Berry is another actress who I find to look absolutely stunning and glamourous 24/7, also glittering in Marchesa

Jennifer Lawrence: Super sexy in this bold yet simple Calvin Klein Collection gown; loving the vivaciousness of the colour and the fit

The absolutely gorgeous Aishwarya Rai in Armani Prive, a red carpet favourite

Simple, yet impeccable: Reese Witherspoon in Armani Prive

And finally, the graceful Black Swan Best Actress Winner, Natalie Portman in Rodarte: Maternity couture is very very difficult to pull off correctly, and never have I ever seen it done more perfectly as now- the plum hue, the fit, the accessories…everything so radiant, definitely a step up from the Viktor & Rolf mishap from the Golden Globes last month.

Best dressed this year in your opinion?

  1. I lived in S.Cal (Glendale) for a year and it caused me some major disillusion, and thereafter I stopped watching these types of events. Or maybe that is my high-horsed excuse just because I no longer have a TV?

So I can only judge Lewis & Clark on its fashion. And I must say, Sara, you are the clear favorite. Only about 10% of women on the campus stray from normal college-girl fashion norms. You not only stray, but you aren’t even chained to those norms in the first place- you have shrugged off conformance in the name of fashion, and have done so quite successfully! (I’ve only seen you a couple times around campus and I base this opinion on those sitings.)

Who taught you how to be fashionable? Was it a family member or close friend, or did you notice fashionable people in the media or in Europe and independently decide that you wanted to be like them? Every other LC woman and their garments are just a background for you and your fashions to walk in front of! Bravo.

Now that I am looking over the pics again, I vote for Ms. Rai. Don’t ask me why. Take care, hope the semester is going well.
