How did I spend my Tuesday afternoon?
Having a hang out sesh with my effortlessly chic friend, Kyle:
Kyle and I met through mutual friends last September and immediately bonded over our mutual Alexander McQueen/greek yoghurt/fashion week streaming obsessions. Not only does he exhibit an impeccable taste in style, but is incredibly intelligent and artistic in a variety of disciplines. He also earned MAJOR Fage points with me for waking up at pre-sunrise on a Saturday morning last November to hit up the Lanvin for H&M debut avec moi (I should also mention that him and Carley so thoughtfully brought me a Pain au Chocolat from Boulangerie St Honore as power-shopping sustenance.)
Like myself, Kyle is delightfully unemployed right now (though still has two years of college to go) and is thus the perfect person to hit up for some delightful and inspired lunch company.
At noon today I drove over to Kyle’s current ‘hood (SE Clinton):

And we walked past all the adorable porched abodes and cherry blossom trees lining the streets for one of the most legitimate places in all of Portland to grab a meal:
PokPok on SE Division; I have been here once before for dinner back in February and have been dying to return for all the spicy and bursting with flavour Thai street fare. (FYI- the man behind PokPok, Whiskey Soda Lounge, and Ping just won a James Beard Award!)
After much contemplation, we made our decisions:
Me: The Pok Pok special consisting of half a roasted game hen stuffed with lemongrass, garlic, pepper and cilantro served with sweet & sour and tamarind dipping sauces; spicy green papaya salad with tomatoes, long beans, chili, lime juice, tamarind, fish sauce, garlic palm sugar, dried shrimp, and peanuts
DELICIOUS. The perfect lunch! I love the chic Thai Tiki Hut ambiance (and that they also have the tamarind whiskey sour from Whiskey Soda Lounge on the menu). Goal for the next three months: Find a dwelling within walking distance so I can have rotisserie game hens on a daily basis.
Après our satisfying meal, Kyle and I soaked up some of the rare sun and took a stroll down Division Street to my very favorite local supermarket chain, New Seasons.
Kyle had to pick up some ingredients for a Panzanella he is taking to a Potluck tonight; I on the other hand had time to kill prior to my 4pm Dental appointment so I just frolicked amongst the produce:
Look how GARGANTUAN these heirloom tomatoes are!? No joke, we’re talking the size of my face! If I didn’t have another five hours before getting home, I would have totally picked one up for the dinner party Anne, Amalia, and I are planning later this week.
Sometimes I wish I owned a family to cook for, so that I could buy all these bizarre ingredients and turn them in to magic- upon stating this, Kyle’s response was: “Like a personal chef?”
Precisely, mon ami.
Once I move into a quaint place of my own, I shall make a habit out of throwing dinner parties. Kyle can bring panzanella, Anne can lug over her nine cases of Sauvingon Blanc, and Amalia can make focaccia.
