Style Series: Creme de la Creme

Is it just me or are the sprigs of autumn beginning to trickle into the air?

Maybe it’s just because I have been spending far too much time perusing fall fashion both online and in store that I am beginning the process of stocking my wardrobe with knits, tights, coats, and boots…

…but in any case one of my favourite colour themes of the new season is none other than the simply elegant pairing of neutrals: Beiges, cremes, and nudes; and alors my most recent purchases:

Frenchi knit sweater, $48 at Nordstrom
Sparkle & Fade kimono style lace cardigan, $59 at Urban Outfitters

I’m not sure whether or not I’m going to keep the kimono-gan, it caught my eye in store but I’m yet to find something in my closet it can make a killer combo with.

Frenchi sweater paired with Citizens of Humanity cut-offs

Comfortable, oversize, and perfect for autumn

Paired with some roll-up khakis

And the kimono-gan as worn…the sleeves are sheer as you can see; I like the fit and was debating between the lace version or a light pink silk version (but it looked a little too pyjama-like which is why I chose the lace)

And some other gorgeous neutral pieces available in stores (most of which are outside my realm of affordability…but it’s perfectly fine to dream):

3.1 Phillip Lim, $395 at Saks Fifth Avenue
McQ, $450 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Burberry Brit, $850 at Nordstrom
Valentino RED, $895 at Nordstrom
Elie Tahari, $568 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Helmut Lang, $350 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Maison Martin Margiela cashmere cardigan, $1,240 at Saks Fifth Avenue
BOSS Black, $325 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Alice & Olivia, $198 at Saks Fifth Avenue
Burberry London Fox-trimmed trench coat, $1,995 at Saks Fifth Avenue

All images from either Saks or Nordstrom

What’s your favourite upcoming autumn trend?

How do you wear neutrals? Do you mix them with brights, wear varying tones or reserve it for accessories?

What are your most recent clothing purchases?

  1. You are rocking the cream Sara…not many people can carry that color off. I certainly can’t! It makes me look washed out so I avoid it mostly.

I love the tights/tall boots/long sweater look. Even if people say it’s over I can’t wait to pull my boots out for the fall.

    1. You are always far too kind, Ameena! I’m sure you look amazing in neutrals…actually in anything!
I also love the tights/boots/sweater look, it just looks so elegant and is comfortable!

    1. Oh please, of course you can carry that colour scheme…you’re a brownie too which means neutrals are very complimentary…along with every other colour 🙂

  2. I love that knit sweater- looks great on you and the color is very wearable! And if you want to add a splash of color, there’s always accessories! I’m super jealous that you’re shopping for autumn/winter…I love layering but I’d be a fool to consider it in whilst I’m in Mumbai :)!

  3. girlllllllll you lookin fine! 😉
I rock neutrals all day everyday. except in Greece, I forced myself to wear brighter colors because it just seemed so appropriate. Neutrals + cute shoes and accessories is my favorite, especially in unfashionable Ohio. its about the most i can get away with 🙂
looooooooving the nordstroms and urban purchases! two of my favorite stores. Are you a free people shopper? sometimes i absolutely love it, but it can definitely be a hit or miss kind of store

  4. I don’t keep up with trends so I don’t even know, haha. I like earth tones way more than neutrals and I tend to stain lighter colored clothing haha.

  5. That knit sweater is adorable, I am seriously in love with your style! I’m pretty sure neutrals only look good one me when I am a bit more tan… otherwise they tend to wash me out.. darn you winter!
I am excited for boots with leggings- so comfortable and warm especially paired with a nice big sweater 🙂

  6. Way to look like a supermodel, much? And I love that outfit. Can I mention that British style is killing me with its awesomeness? I think I’ll have to take a camera to the streets tomorrow; it’s so varied and fashionable that I just can’t resist!

  7. fall is absolutely my favourite season! i love everything about it, especially the fashion!

trench coats, peacoats, tall leather boots, cute blue jeans, scarves and light sweaters LOVE LOVE LOVE! i cant wait for fall to come!

the first sweater is super cute! i kinda wish i had one for myself 😛

  8. I love the knit sweater! I usually don’t wear cream unless it’s summer and I’m tan enough to pull it off haha.

I do like neutrals, but I usually stick with browns, tans and darker greys. I’ve actually bought a lot of neutral pieces lately, like dark brown twill shorts and a grey lace tee. I’ve always loved the look of lace but I’m also having a hard time figuring out what to pair with it!

  9. Oh man that sweater is so pretty!!!

I love looser fitting sweaters…it reminds me of fall so much.

Hahah I love your bedroom wall…did you decorate your college dorm room with magazine clippings as well?

I love summer so much but I have to just acknowledge that fall is coming up…and so is college (in two days!!!)
